Are You Sleep Deprived?

Are you sleep deprived? This is a more serious problem than just being tired the next day. Getting enough quality sleep can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. The negative effects of being sleep deprived can accumulate over a period of time or can occur in a moment—such as having a car accident.

Here are just a few reasons you need to get enough sleep consistently.

Older is BETTER

Are you concerned about getting old? I had a boss years ago who said getting older is not a big deal…and it is much better than the alternative (dying young). I know—he had lots of one-liners, but some, like this one, really imparted some wisdom.

As a younger person, I remember seeing people in their forties (and beyond) and for the most part, they looked like old people. Today, we take better care of ourselves and honestly, we look great!! We are still vibrant and we have gained wisdom which helps us to make better decisions. We are active and enjoying our lives. Many surveys show that as we get older we are also more content with our lives!

Are You Ready For Summer?

Summer is here!! It is time to plan your vacation and fun activities for the warm months of the year.  If you live in Florida like I do, we have summer weather most of the year, but now the kids are out of school for a few weeks and we are all planning our summer activities.

We usually think of days at the beach or around the pool during the summer. If you have children, be sure they know how to swim and never leave them unsupervised. Learn CPR and keep a phone nearby to call for help in an emergency.

Shed Winter Weight Now

Oh my! Summer is almost here. Are you ready to change your winter clothes for shorts, tank tops, a bathing suit? Maybe you have been hiding inside the heavier winter clothing and the thought of revealing what is underneath those layers is daunting….scary…downright depressing.

Let’s do it together!! Watch for two more blog articles with tips on revealing our best bodies!

Who Needs Omega 3?

Does everyone need an Omega 3 supplement? I will let you be the judge of that.

Here is my story—I have been health and weight conscious all my life. I had always maintained a reasonable (not perfect) weight–exercised regularly–ate healthy—never drank and never smoked. No one was more surprised that I was when I had a significant heart attack 8 years ago.

Following my hospital stay, my cardiologist put me on prescriptions that he said I would have to be on the rest of my life AND told me to always take Omega 3. In fact, my cardiologist has never had a heart problem and he takes Omega 3 regularly. He checks in every six months to be sure I am continuing to take my Omega 3.

What Are The Most Important Things In Your Life?

I see many people aimlessly wandering through life with no thoughts of goals or plans to make any goals come true. You know people like that too, don’t you? The most they can hope for is to get through the week…or the day.

Make a list of goals in your life. You can put anything on your list that you really want. I have seen many people’s lists that had things like boats, big houses, fancy cars and diamond rings. There is absolutely nothing wrong in wishing for these material things, but search more deeply for what you really w ant in your life….the things money cannot buy.

All the ‘things’ that money can buy won’t make you happy unless other situations in your life are ‘right’.

How Important Are Your Kidneys?

Your kidneys, shaped like a bean and about the size of your fist, are located in the middle of your back just below the rib cage. Kidneys are vital to your health. Did you know the kidneys process about 2.2 pints of blood per minute? They filter wastes (up to two quarts) from the blood and send it to the bladder. Their function also helps to regulate your blood pressure and balance acidity and electrolyte levels.

Our AMAZING KIDNEYS! Yet we tend to neglect our kidneys unless a problem develops—like infections, kidney stones, etc.  We need to take care of our kidneys all the time—before problems develop.

Are You Ready To SPRING AHEAD?

Don’t you love FALL Daylight Savings time change when you get an extra hour of sleep? Now prepare yourself for the SPRING Daylight Savings time change when you will lose an hour of sleep!! That will be this weekend so when you prepare for bed Saturday, March 11, 2017, move your clocks ahead one hour.

I read an interesting article on health problems associated with this time change. You might like to read it also—READ IT HERE  but I will share with you the general points.

After turning your clocks forward an hour, you might be out of sorts, tired and lethargic for a few days. Why is that? Melatonin is the hormone that makes us feel sleepy and when the sun is up for longer, your sleep cycle can be disturbed. So if next week you have trouble falling asleep and staying awake during the day, blame it on DST!
