How One Simple Word Can Change Your Life

Recently I was not even paying attention to my television, but the word ‘grateful’ caught my attention. Did you know that being grateful-(GRATITUDE)- can actually improve your health and help you to sleep better? I started doing a little research to be sure of what I had heard. It is said that prayers of gratitude—meditation and even passing thoughts can have a great impact on our lives.

Today I checked out an article on Forbes.com and found that:

*Gratitude improves your physical health. A 2012 study reports that people who are grateful have fewer aches and pains. This study also reported that grateful people take better care of their health (regular check-ups) and exercise more often—-all which contributes to better health.

You Can Be A Victor

Life—it is not all a bed of roses!! Sometimes the thorns show up and create struggles in each of our lives. We all become victims from time to time of these ‘thorns’—discouragement, fear, guilt, mistreatment……Often we have no control over these ‘thorns’. What we can control is how we react and how we dwell on them.

Robert Silverstone has said:  ‘A universal law states that whatever we focus our attention on will tend to expand. If we are focused on finding the negative in a person or situation, especially in ourselves, those negatives will tend to expand and before long we find ourselves participating in victim consciousness, often without even being aware of it.’

What Kind of Seeds Are You Planting?

I am not a great gardener but have been attempting to plant some seeds and plants and have a beautiful yard this year. I have researched and planted the seeds that grow well in the area of the US where I live…and I know not to plant seeds for sand spurs, weeds or poison ivy!! I certainly cannot plant sand spur seeds and expect to have lovely, blooming flowers.

What kinds of seeds are you planting in your life? How often do we think and speak negatively and then expect good things in our lives? Think and speak positive words. That sounds easy, doesn’t it? Take a day and be constantly vigilant of your thoughts, words and actions. It is so easy to fall into negative patterns that hold you back from your ultimate goals.

Did You Let The Sunshine In?

Many people dream of a vacation to Florida. Other’s think it must be so wonderful to live in Florida, where it is almost always warm, and spend days on the beaches, in the resorts and theme parks. I am a Floridian—born here and lived all my life in Florida. I can’t imagine living anywhere else. When my northern friends are freezing in the winters…and having huge heating bills…we are often using little to no heat. Some winter days we will even use our air conditioning during the middle of the day. My husband and daughter have been known to go in our pool on Christmas Day!

Are You Rich?

I read some words on a sign recently and had to go back and read them again. It is a simple statement:

“If you want to feel really rich,
think about all the good things in your life
that money cannot  buy!”

We all get discouraged, upset and overwhelmed with ‘life’! Through the years, I try to be ready with my PERSONAL AMMUNITION of positive words, thoughts, prayers. I have also been reminded many times of how blessed I really am in spite of the difficult circumstances.

Are You Searching For Your Rainbow?

Sometimes it is easy to see the rainbow…the good in every situation. Other times, it is hard to see past the storm clouds, wind and rain. It does take effort and determination to realize that these less than wonderful situations will pass–that there is a rainbow just waiting for us.

I have a friend who (as a joke) used to sing the song from the old television show Hee-Haw. Do you remember it?

Gloom, despair and agony on me

Deep dark depression, excessive misery

If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all

Gloom, despair and agony on me

How to Bloom Where You Are Planted

We can’t always choose the cards we have been dealt, but we can learn to play them. Like a flower that grows through a crack in the concrete, sometimes we have to make the best of our situations and bloom where we have been planted.

You may not be where you want to be in life just yet. You may be working a day job that is not your passion and working on your dream through the night.

Keeping our dreams alive is what uplifts the human spirit. But how can we deal with the fact that sometimes we may have to tolerate something that we do not like to eventually get to where we want to be?

Not everyone can quit their jobs and follow a dream. Sometimes our dreams take time. So instead of getting bitter and upset at your situation, why not try blooming where you have been planted?

Here is how I think we can do that and why it makes a difference:

1) Every step in life prepares you for the next one

You may not realize it, but where you are now is providing you with vital life lessons for your next adventure.

When late producer, director, author and screenwriter Michael Crichton was interviewed about how his training as a physician helped him to be a writer, he said this:

No More Complaining and See Your Life Change!

A CHALLENGE—but one that will bring about incredible changes in your life! Learn to live a life of positivity!! We are asking you to do this for 30 days—don’t give up and stop after the first few days. Do it for 30 days and see the changes in your whole life.

For the duration of this Challenge (and hopefully ever after) you’re going to give up ALL criticism, complaining and critical comments.

Each time you catch yourself making a critical comment or complaint (which is probably more often than you realize right now)…STOP and REPLACE that  criticism with something GOOD.
