My mom hated using strong commercial cleaners around her house! I remember her using vinegar for so many things and I decided to do my own search for the many uses of this versatile—and cheap—household product. I will share some ways you can easily use it too (If not stated, use white vinegar) . For more great ideas, do a search on the internet.
GREAT IDEAS FOR YOUR KITCHEN
*Clean your refrigerator with a solution of ½ vinegar and ½ water
*Clean your microwave by boiling a mixture of ¼ cup white vinegar and 1 cup water in a microwave safe bowl—until steam forms on the window. Then wipe down with a soft cloth.
*If you get smells in your plastic containers from food stored in them, try rubbing the insides with vinegar—rinse and dry
*Mix vinegar and salt—or vinegar and baking soda to remove stains—on coffee/tea cups. Also brighten your faucets with vinegar or remove buildup with a paste of 1 teaspoon vinegar and 2 tablespoons salt.
*Wipe down your stove and counter tops with a solution of equal parts water and vinegar.
*Scrub pots and pans with this simple mixture—use equal parts salt and flour—add enough vinegar to make a paste.
*A cheap and non toxic way to clean your drains—put 1 cup of baking soda in the drain—then pour in 1 cup white vinegar—leave for a few minutes and then pour over a pot of boiling water.
OTHER USES FOR VINEGAR AROUND THE HOUSE AND OUTSIDE
*Have a rusty screw? Pour vinegar on the screw—leave a few minutes and it will loosen much easier
*How about full strength vinegar? Pour a cup of white vinegar in your toilet and let sit overnight or for several hours. Put your paintbrushes in a pot with vinegar for an hour – then put pot on stove and simmer a few minutes. Rinse your paintbrushes.
*You know those cracks in your sidewalks where weeds love to grow? Pour vinegar there to saturate the roots.
*I love cut flowers in my house, but how do I keep them looking fresh? Mix together 1 quart of water, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of sugar.
*Do you have cats and are you battling odors from litter boxes? When cleaning the litter boxes, put ½ inch of white vinegar in the litter box. After 20 minutes, pour out the vinegar, rinse with water and dry
*Gum in your hair or on clothing? Put vinegar in a small bowl—heat in microwave and pour over gum I read it will dissolve the gum—but I didn’t put gum in my hair to try it!!
*Do you have a sticky residue on your scissors? Clean with vinegar. Don’t use soap and water—this can cause your scissors to rust
*Try removing ball point pen marks or crayon scribbling with vinegar. Of course your children don’t do that on your walls, but if a visitor leave their artwork on your walls….
*I have to use this one for my piano keys!! ½ cup white vinegar in 2 cups water– Use a soft cloth and squeeze out thoroughly so it does not drip to clean the keys—wipe dry
